Literary Translation
Literary translation is a passion, and I love spending hours discussing word choice. I have gotten it to pay a few times, and for the right project, I’m happy to seek out funding.
In my career thus far, I have mainly translated some of the classic works of Uzbek poetry and prose and published them with academic publishers, but I’m hoping to break into modern Russian and Uzbek literature as I pursue my career further. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I’m particularly interested in presenting our stories to broader world.
Check out some of the things I’ve translated already as well as my own pieces.

Academic & Industry Translation
As an academic and former humanities professor, I’ve spent countless hours reading papers across the humanities and social sciences in English, Russian, and Uzbek.
As part of my many projects and freelance work, I have translated articles and texts in music, literature, the arts, history, and political science.
But my career has already taken me into other fields in which I haven’t specialized. I currently translate math titles and abstracts for American Mathematical Society’s journal Math Reviews from Russian, Ukrainian, and sometimes Bulgarian. I have also translated countless medical documents from Russian and Uzbek when working immigration cases. As a freelancer, I’ve translated a few texts in geology and engineering from my two languages. Even if I haven’t worked in the field before, I’m always willing to learn.

Legal Translation
I have been translating immigration and asylum documents for clients since 2013 and been working with immigration authorities since 2010. I know the ins and outs of the system and what USCIS, DHS, and immigration judges are looking for.
As part of an immigration or other legal matter, I’m well experienced in translating documents outside the legal field that pertain to a client’s case. That can include identity, school, medicinal, business, or other documents.
I’m ready to consult with attorneys as they go through the process of legal discovery. Together we can find those documents that will best help the client’s case. As an expert in the culture of the region and in the humanities, I’m also fully capable of providing cultural explanations of issues and finding experts willing to offer testimony.

Interpretation
I have been interpreting for Russian and Uzbek in asylum interviews and other legal proceedings outside of court since 2017. I expect to receive court certification to interpret soon through my work with SOS International.
I have also interpreted for parents and children at school, service needs, elder care, and creative projects such as films. Whatever your interpretation need, I am competent to supply it.
